About Respond

Many people seeking NDIS therapy, assessment or reporting are not dealing with one issue in isolation. Disability often intersects with a wide range of social issues. Emotional wellbeing, relationships, family stress, housing, trauma, service gaps, safety concerns, social isolation, and difficulty navigating services can all affect how a person functions in everyday life.

Service systems and responses can often be fragmented, viewing these issues as separate from a person’s disability or diagnosis, rather than understanding them as factors that may interact with, worsen, or be worsened by disability.

At Respond, we work to make these links clear. We look at how disability intersects with a person’s environment, relationships, routines, housing, support network, health, safety and service systems. This helps ensure that people are not moved through disconnected service systems without the right disability-related support, evidence and planning.

This understanding shapes the way we work with people. Respond provides therapy supports, biopsychosocial assessment, functional assessment, NDIS reporting, support planning and consultancy that looks at the whole picture, not just a diagnosis or a single area of functioning.

Practitioner Information:

Respond is based in Cairns, Queensland. Services are provided by Kylen Evans, a qualified Accredited Social Worker and member of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Kylen has more than 16 years’ experience across high-risk, statutory, crisis and community service settings, including Support Coordination, domestic and family violence, homelessness, child protection, mental health, justice, victim support, dementia support, youth work, family support, and experience working across all levels of government.

Her background has shaped Respond’s approach to practice, bringing strong advocacy skills and an understanding of risk, safety, trauma, service system navigation, complex family dynamics, service barriers, and the practical realities that can affect a person’s capacity to participate in everyday life.

Working with an owner-operated service means there is continuity across the work. The person completing the assessment is also the person who understands the therapy goals, support context, reporting needs and broader picture.

This can be especially important when circumstances are complex, when multiple services are involved, or when information needs to be translated clearly for the NDIS, Support Coordinators, families, providers or care teams.

The aim is to provide social work support that is collaborative, practical and meaningful - support that understands and responds to complexity, communicates clearly, and stays connected to the realities of the person being supported.
